GAS Theory

For the whole of 6 years the most reliable brothers are fighting over it from $2.34 per mbtu to $ 4.2 per mbtu. Trying to Sell and Negotiate as much possible.

It leads ET(Extra Talented) discussions to the logical conclusions.

Business Mathematics seems immune to it unless combine with Statistical interpretation in the field of management.
The Economics says there is pricing policy attached to it since its a necessary good and fall in public utilities and hence controlled price mechanism by Government which naturally leads to monopoly.

The Finance peg a whooping profit of Rs. 65000 crores for the Reliance Industries just out of the D6-KG basin block. Well very few would argue with it.

The IEA and the scientist say it is the most cleanest form of fuel used.

There is debate on the Marketing policy of it.

There is even a fashion brand on it.

To be used in power plants, in manufacturing fertilizers and fueling CARS as well.

It used in form for laughing as well. Some of the diseases are caused while some are eradicated with it.

There is a music group on it.

Operationally and Planning wise most complex in nature. Some time costing is important for right fund Valuations.

People have also tried hedging exams and test with it.

Call it the startegy, policy, principle, code of conduct or law its everywhere.  Its one of the thing which is defying the law of conservation of matter and energy. People just love it and are addicted especially when through management sales funnel. It has many Perspectives.

Some old people have taken in to the leadership platform and delivering high performance on it.

Organizational Behavior encourage it for inter-group interaction and in the name of free flow of information. Its in meeting, conference, discussions, committees and councils. Corporate hence tell you to use it Responsibly in Social behavior.

HR just shower it while hiring or firing.

Call it Boyle's law, Charle's law or theorize by some Vander walls's equation. No Avagadro's number is sufficient to quantify it.

Some leaders like Count your chickens before they are hatched  have some how mastered the art.The use of Information Technology  leaves it in very good taste and proves real application of Mahabharata, Ramayana and Iliad and Odyssey as true management value adds.

There are innumerable way of saying, defining and even writing it.

I have tried a small fraction distilled version of it which I guess would help fire a chain reaction with highest octane value.

"GAS" -- 'Generously Additive Sources'
its a management genre - our very own language - be proud of it.

The word "gas" was invented by Jan Baptist van Helmont, perhaps as a Dutch pronunciation re-spelling of "chaos".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Wikipedia starts something like this

As a noun in the English language, a gas is one of three classical states of matter. Near absolute zero, a substance exists as a solid. As heat is added to this substance it melts into a liquid at its melting point, boils into a gas at its boiling point, and if heated high enough would enter a plasma state in which the electrons are so energized that they leave their parent atoms from within the gas. A pure gas may be comprised of individual atoms (e.g. a noble gas or atomic gas like neon), elemental molecules made from one type of atom (e.g. oxygen), or compound molecules made from a variety of atoms (e.g. carbon dioxide). A gas mixture would contain a variety of pure gases much like the air that we breathe. What distinguishes a gas from liquids and solids is the vast separation of the individual gas particles as seen in the model to the right. This separation usually makes a colourless gas invisible to the human observer.
This article provides background information on the gaseous state of matter found between the liquid and plasma states[2], the latter of which provides the upper temperature boundary for gases. Bounding the lower end of the temperature scale lie degenerative quantum gases[3] which are gaining increased attention these days[4]. High density atomic gases super cooled to incredibly low temperatures are classified by their statistical behavior as either a bose gas or a fermi gas. For a comprehensive listing of these exotic states of matter see list of states of matter.
The journey begins with a brief review of the physical characteristics of gases. From that introduction, the article diverges and views gases from two distinct perspectives, macro-, or the system point of view, and micro-scopic, or particle viewpoint. Simplified models or gas laws are introduced next. These models characterize ideal gas behavior. From modeling, the article explores the historical connection to gases including prominent scientists along the path. The final section introduces gas terms which link to more detailed applications involving gases. Among these advanced applications are energy considerations like thermodynamics, and movement through a gas, gas flows, or aerodynamics.

Bhagvad for Tiger Woods

People born in India could hardly relate to golf back then when Tiger was roaring in the woods on PGA tour. An unmatched champion competing only with himself at one point referring to the Canadian open shot.

I have seen him play life and admire the concentration level, unfazed by all means, determined to win till the point of theoretical possibility. The year of 2000 was magical for him, a legend in the making him.

None knew what he did off the field and it never mattered. Rather, nobody bothered.

Its like the warrior, his goal is to achieve on the battlefield.

Hence, what happend of-late to his personal life should be none of concern of any of his fans. It has happened to the best and it takes courage to admit to anything of the sort he has done. The whole golfing community awaits his accentuated performance of highest delivery.

The nail in the coffin has been struck with he deciding not to play golf for indefinite period. Now, that is not only loss to game of golf; but challenging his privy is a matter of what we have become of society. If all his fans, the sports lover love the game of golf, we can let him settle those dispute on his own. He knows best, he understand the situation, he and only the direct concerned are aware of the facts.

It shame to make it a public gimmick and make a Champion fall from his pinnacle and drop his armor.

As the Bhagvad Gita Says,
akirtim capi bhutani
kathayisyanti te 'vyayam
sambhavitasya cakirtir
maranad atiricyate
People will always speak of your infamy, and for one who has been
honored, dishonor is worse than death.

karmany evadhikaras te

ma te sango 'stv akarmani
You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not
entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself to be the
cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not
doing your duty.

niyatam kuru karma tvam
karma jyayo hy akarmanah
sarira-yatrapi ca te
na prasiddhyed akarmanah
Perform your prescribed duty, for action is better than inaction. A man
cannot even maintain his physical body without work.

naiva tasya krtenartho
nakrteneha kascana
na casya sarva-bhutesu
kascid artha-vyapasrayah
A self-realized man has no purpose to fulfill in the discharge of his
prescribed duties, nor has he any reason not to perform such work. Nor
has he any need to depend on any other living being.

tasmat sarvesu kalesu

"Therefore, Arjuna, you should always think of Me, and at the same time
you should continue your prescribed duty and fight. With your mind and
activities always fixed on Me and everything engaged in Me, you will
attain to Me without any doubt."

Thus, Woods please take the to the TEE whack it hard for all the condor, albatross, eagle, birdie and at least par in hole to fill all the bogeys of golfing green of life.

Austerity in Politics

"The serenity of mind, gentleness, silence, self-restraint, and the purity of mind are called the austerity of thought.” – says the Bhagavad Gita.

The austerity measure on part of finance ministry has been a long standing instruction aimed at reducing expenditure for administrative purposes. While the note circulated was specific concerning to the local travel
and holding conferences in private hotels; some of the politicians have taken it as a drive to woo voters.

With fiscal deficit rising to 6.8 % of GDP officially and 12.5% in reality; with many of the social welfare programs aimed at garnering more votes from rural areas; with pile up of huge subsidy burden it was high time
that the moms and the dads of country decided to give up some of their basic luxuries.

While it is good to be tech-savvy and twitter your ideas at the speed of light; some people take it too far in all forms. No one announces measures of austerity over twitter by sounding a trumpet; measures of austerity
are adopted in hard times and with soberness. There is no flamboyancy attached to it. Also the elephant gods near Ganga have been told not to dance by Supreme Court.

While it is good to adopt such measures on domestic front, it remains important that we do not project the same outwards. There is a growth story attached to the nation and such austerity measure can reflect crisis. What happened in Israel in 1949-1959 when nation was coming of its age was because of sheer chaos prevailing at that time. Similarly in Cuba was because of dissolution of the USSR or for that matter in U.K. post World War II. The government decided to reduce expenditure in general on various fronts both from public and government expenditure.

None of such predicament is faced by us today. Then what is the drive all about? While some
might say that it is the next political bandwagon of Congress after the 'Aam Aadmi' campaign or other might just put it off as a political gimmick. Finance minister term it as a move to reduce non-plan expenditure by 10%.

If it is the next thing from political party, it is to be ensured that PR managers do a great job as they did with the political campaign in picking the young guns from the grass-root levels. Also if the aim is of reducing expenditure, it will have a secondary positive effect in terms of improved cost of governance. Taking an example, if the conferences are held within the premises of ministry, if possible, it could help save on time of to and fro movements (time efficacy). Babus will soon be called by their original name.

While these are good measures aimed at improving accountability, there should be no compromise on the protocol or security front. If charity begins at home then with the administrators are here to prove a point of prudence. Also to tell education institution to increase their fees, reduce subsidy and avoid travel at reputed B-schools is not a solution. But why blame the babus and netas alone; it is only when SEBI has come down hard on the fact sheets of some corporate we came to know how some of the corporate have increased their pay checks when it was the toughest and little profitability on the cards. That was a check on corporate governance front.

Newton said integration of the smallest part makes the biggest of numerical figures. It is upon us that we show greater level of austerity in choosing our Democracy next time.

A peace of mind

A number of problems at my hand
with little levy drips the sand
The thrust of competition whole in a grind
I still look in it a peace of mind

Speed up says the crowd walking by
You don't speak whole truth without a lie
Flow of words and all of veracity
There is no test which stands my integrity

Galvanising the people, consolidating the thoughts,
all recorded , without taking notes.
Losing out not just little in keeping a bind,
Being still selfish for a peace of mind

Cursing the dead, blaming the past,
   when standing tall for any half-mast;
Allude of powers which made me blind
with little vision, I search my peace of mind

Lonely as he stood at the cliff,
I beg of you not to make it more stiff
In search of that solace, in search of self-pride,
I walk back to start, there lies my peace of mind.

To be or not to be!!

"To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action."

And all  this while I thought there are limited perspective to everything....

Item : "Its better to be..... what say?."
Dude: "With you,I will damn find enuf time for everything.

A Prayer

"I am not an Atheist to rarely come back to you God. But I come here to pray for the well being of each and every child of yours. God, you have given me most of the necessities I need and a little more than that. Whenever I come to you I ask for forgiveness and nothing more; Forgiveness for the fact that I could not perform my duties effectively. I did not want to ask you more for it have undermine your conviction in me about my abilities. God, I wanted to give little less trouble to you for I believe there are far more complicated and unresolved issues which need more attention of yours. You need to concentrate and deliver more results. I may sound like a Manager but on this earth, today, everyone needs to be accountable. As you do of me, I expect the same of you. Please take a little more care of my fellow humans. And yes, give me more actions in order to perform and a little more strength so I can outperform.  I believe only  in you as a constant source of my energy and constant sink of my sins and problems. You have created the most beautiful world to live in and most beautiful people to live with. I see you in every creation of yours and every action of theirs. I learn from each of them and every action of theirs. And I believe, through them, you teach and wherever you teach is the temple of sorts. So I visit you everyday. God, I am not an Atheist."

Change

There is a great way we have moved forward since the inception of human civilization
I myself have seen a little phase as I have grown up.

recent remarkable changes
1. Homosexuality :
A man cannot be a criminal since it is by birth that his sexual orientation is so; its not a choice its by birth and hence natural. It altogether thus is a right of an individual rather than law of state.

2. Religion of choice:
The Babri masjid verdict by the Librehan commission and note on the same by supreme court underlines the fact there are no more relevant in the society today since other issues like food, clothing, shelter and job security are of prim importance compared to other trivial issue which have been nothing more than political vendetta. It has always been a third person who have introduced such difference in society and brought about divisions which then continue to remain in the veins of society till they are washed over time by the other important components of its blood.

3. A suitable girl:
Its no longer just the choice of boy when an arranged marriage is thought of now in the family.Vikram Seth's yet to be released new novel "A suitable girl"- just higlights the same that we have came a long way in terms of sexual equality.

4. Beware Social Animal Ahead!!

What is the cost of?

What is the cost of a glass of water?
No greater than a pool of blood!
What is the cost of a morsel of food?
No greater than a pound of flesh of a human!
What is the cost of an inch square of house?
No greater than comfort of a family!
What is the cost of a breeze of air?
No greater than the sweat of hard work!
What is the cost of an hour of sleep?
No greater than the coziness of a traumatized!
What is the cost of peace of mind?
No greater than the responsibility of a mother!
What is the cost of being honest?
No greater than being innocent!
What is the cost of being dressed?
No greater than self respect!
What is the cost of being alone?
No greater than being at one's wit end!
What is the cost of originality?
No greater than the acceptance of society!
What is the cost of strength?
No greater than being indivisible!
What is the cost of a friend?
No greater than another friend!

WHAT I STUDIED IN TEN YEARS OF SCHOOL

http://www.baikabibai.com/0506/
1 thru 10 standard

A walk beneath a sunny sky

A boat beneath a sunny sky,
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July -

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear -

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die:
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream -
Lingering in the golden dream -
Life, what is it but a dream?

Can engineers be 'Touchy feely'?

Apparently they can... says author Chetan Bhagat

I remember the incident - I was in a restaurant, and one girl in our group
was especially charming. So I, like any other male, tried to put on a wooing
act. You know the routine, a nanosecond extra eye contact, a few more nods
to whatever she says, and attempts to throw in those one-liners which you
know you wouldn't if she weren't there.

And it seemed to be working. She leaned forward when she spoke to me, and
every now and again, we'd have a small conversation of our own, separate
from our group. She laughed at my approach with the fork and knife, and I
teased her about her hair band, which had little teddy bears. Yes, we were
flirting. A while later, she asked me the question - what did I study? I
said engineering, without any particular meaning attached to it. And then
like a cold metal rail, she went stiff.

My jokes weren't funny any more. Her eyes wandered to everyone else.
What was it?

Why? Why? Why?

Two days later, I still couldn't get over my great start that had dissipated
listlessly upon mentioning my education. Engineer? What was wrong with that?

My mom had wanted me to become one since I was five! I had to call her.
'So
what happened to you that day, hot and cold, missie?' And then she said,
trying to be nice, 'Well, it's just that I am skeptical about engineers as
friends. I don't know, they can be, you know, very logical and
everything...
not very touchy feely'.

Not touchy-feely. Now what the heck did that mean? Well, she obviously did
not mean it literally, since girls don't really suggest that sort of stuff,
certainly not in the first meeting across the table. I guessed it was
something to do with feelings, sort of having an emotional side. The
stereotype being, the nerdy guy who sees relationships like laws of physics,
to whom love is just a bunch of chemicals going crazy in your brain, and
getting to know a person means obtaining their bio-data.

It's time to set the record straight.

It's true that a lot of what engineers study (and they end up studying quite
a lot), has to do with formulaes, laws and numbers. No matter how hard we
try, some of the vocabulary we read all day gets into our language. So when
my mother said, 'Are you getting married next year or not?' I was liable to
say, 'Well, at this moment in time, the probability is relatively low,' and
felt it was completely normal to say it. And when my sister went sari
shopping and couldn't explain the shade she wanted, I told the shopkeeper
the percentages of pink, orange and red in the sari.

Yet, ladies, I don't think we're bad at relationships, love and getting to
know people. We too, can be touchy-feely, as that is part of our education
as well. The reason for this is that most engineering students live in the
ultimate educator - boy's hostels. Now, let me explain how this plays into
this 'touchy-feely' thing. Relationships. Imagine eating, sleeping,
brushing your teeth, bathing (ok rarely this one) and partying with the same people
all the time. So, when you are kicking that bathroom door down for the tenth time, or when you stand in line for 'gulab-jamuns' in the mess, and when you are done with the vodka bottle and sharing all your secrets, you know it is
good practice. Yes, hostels maketh the man.

So, next time you are in a flirtatious situation with the techno types,go
on, flirt a bit more. Of course, I am biased towards my kind, but if you
find the conversation turning too geeky, just ask them, 'So, what were your
hostel days like?' and chances are, you'll see a heart behind the calculator. Coming back to my missie, I thought of what would make me win
her over. Flowers... too cheesy. Music... don't know her taste (nor trust mine). Teddy bears... don't even go there. Desperate for some good lines, I just turned it right back at her. 'Yes, I know what you are saying about
engineers. The thing is, unless people with depth like you start hanging
out with us, we won't get any better. Can you meet me some time for some
touchy/feely... oops, I mean coffee/tea?'

She giggled. When they giggle, you have won.

Hence proved.

I, Pramod , Hemang and Kevin were returning after watching STRAIGHT ! at twelve in the night. A person with hi ek taar got into the coach along with his little girl. He first played "Shirdi wale-" and then some song which I was familiar with. The little girl came across but we shunned her away. Then everbody left as stations came and I was sitting at Borivali station waiting for 50 minute for 1:06 train to come. I started humming this song.... then next one minute tains comes , I step in and the same girl and person were playing the same tune.. : I then remembered why I was humming.. I gave 5 Rs for their performance and felt quiet good about it. People just enjoyed and then call for different songs were made followed by generosity. I went all the way home humming the song.. "Aane se uske aaye bahar jaane se uske jaaye bahar, badi mastani hai...."

2. "Manager"
This is a story which happened 2 feets aways from me. Travelling on Monday morning to Borivali. There was this bank clerk of 45 years and his branch manager 51 years travelling together. The cleark started that these managers are good for nothing. They rarely even move out of their cabin to see our problems. Even though manager get incentive on work, our salary hike are strictly looked at. On these manager started like "tera to fielding lagaana padega". clerk replied " you can always do that, you are the manager".. Manager replies " WE are outside here no one is manager, but if we keep on settling our score over here, noth are going to lose customers..." I was laughing all the way. They knew I was listening...Before getting down, clerk " Saheb Borivali aalaa".. manager " Let go back to work now!! we will have more fun tomorrow".

3. FRUSTATION

I was coming back after content building session at Parag chitale... not knowing the way forward... changed train frm BOrivali when a 7 year old kid came, he was a shoe polisher. He went from one person to another looking for a possible customer. After that he sat in frustation and just as I turned other way and came back to the scene in front. He was all his head down in his hands.. then suddenly a rush came in on the next station and a person was abt to fall in the stampede. That boy gave him a hand and person was saved just short of falling.... The boy started tapping " Ruk jaana nahi tu kahi haar ke....." I smiled and had a sip of water from my bottle... u sometime overestimates ur worries...

4. ELemental

It was thursday evening,After changing train from DADAR; Pramod went to the door in the VIrar local and I bought this 2 Rs Peanuts(Our worth this days at It companies). I ate those peanuts savoring taste till Bandra.. Then just as I was about to through away the paper. I realised it was some text book paper. It was elements of nature Science I standard IV.. in hindi... I read from elements to atoms to particles to Metal and non metals.... "annu, pramaaanu, dhaatu and adhaatu"... in the last sentence it was written " iske kai apvaad bhi hote.." there are exceptions to these classifications... then i took out my newspaper and there were muslims , dalits and sikh division written all over the front page in the poll news... and actual Representatives I felt are "APVAAD" to all these.

5.EVER EXPANDING UNIVERSE..
7:49 BANDRA LOCAL MORNING, FRIDAY

There are maximum of 8 person sitting on the last seat of the first class coach in Bhayander. I thought thats enough and that part of the universe wont be able to accomodate me. The came borivali and one person got down. I thought then there was a chance. But by then those 7 have expanded into the vacuum created. there was no void. Then came goregaon till when i had given hope of sitting and thought rather prudent to move out to get down at Andheri. Then one more got up and got down at Goregaon. This time was it was sure to get sit as min of 7 should sit on that broadf bench. But Einstein won, the universe was ever expanding. Those 6 somehow managed to expand into the space. Then came Andheri just as i picked up to take my bag to get down. All six got up to follow me to get down and I just told them in face, my friends you proved einstein right. I have to prove that black hole exists and you should never get close to those, event horizon might just suck you in.My escape velocity is just enough to get down. You enjoyed the space ride.

April fool.

Its hot out in summer,
with recession ON, even minds are not cool
What can be pricked
it better be a tool
for even fun has meaning
though not a rule.

Bad jokes are bad
good jokes better be bad,
pranks are best
unless you are not the one thrown in the tank.

Science drama fictions
and all the soap queens
please take a back seat
because you all are so mean
Here comes the reality
to beat the retreat.
Jokes have mileage in smiles
and I see coming one more on your face that happy shine.

If it is a tragedy seen from close
reclaim comedy in your life with a little repose.

let me close this tumor
on a sarcastic note of humor.

Please dont wear wool
to be cool
today there is no rule
and there is enough point in being a fool.

Some more days to go!!

Winds are those who change their path
Minds are those who change others path
We ventured in that change we ventured far
I came across most beautiful and close people who brought me at par
I want to smile more days
I want to have more says
At this horizon I keep a mark
Lets keep going and spread the spark
We will meet on all seasons If we know of each others direction
So please keep in touch and lets keep going this communication

and please let me know at any point if I was an intrusion. Thanks.

NON VIOLENCE

A human is the most selfish creation of God.

Zylus and Xema were two countries in ancient Europe. The two neighborhood exemplified strength of great nation. But there was a great difference between the two.

One Zylus was known for peace loving nature and excellent standard of life. At the same time Xema though not very far in terms of living but always had apparent evil instincts.

In both the states it was looked after that none of its native opposed the society at large. But what defined Society at large was confined to few at Zylus and what defined individual was not known much in Xema. Quiet confusing to be true.

Ness was born in Sepia, a small town in Xema. And he was to define the role of individual characters in building societies. Ness was different to each and every person born in Xema. Xema was to discover that sooner than later.

Zylus had a tradition of holding annual champion series, a showcase of sole human strength; whoever won could ask for anything and no denial on anybody’s part for it. Every person from the earth could take part in and it were only the Xemians who were denied only for diplomatic reasons. To put matter on hold Xemians heads had their own ego to pacify; they never participated.

Zylus was always aware that holding such an event meant that the sovereignty of the state was always at stake. The champion could always claim the head of any state. Non participating nation have to also bear the outcome in such a case. But since it was accepted by most states barring few like Xema and Omila, it always seemed to be a championship of honor, more than anything else.

Zylus in order to support the honor of hosting such an event ensured top class participation. There was an entire chain of institutes all over Zylus to support this endeavor. For Zylus winning this honor was second only to piece in land.

Xema always wanted to win this but never had a champion of its own. Even if they had, their ego varnished the strength to dust.

Icho was born in the most effluent family of Zylus. More effluent family, best facilities, rooming ground, most safe haven to build your strength; Icho was destined to be the next champion of Zylus Champion series. What happened after can become a legend.

Zylus knew it was four years still before the day Icho will arrive to put his strength to test. He was sent to Omila, one of the most hostile places to train. Omila was not as evil as Xema, it was only that they supported Xemas ideology of being self approved right, which put them in the wrong eyes in the corridors of powers.

It was also known that the year Icho was to enter the champion series, Kyso, the ambitious nation from remote Africa was to put their stake at being champion. Kyso though opportunistic, had every right in thinking so. They had the opportunity; it was only that intentions should have been limited.

Abin was the sole chance Kyso was relying upon. Abin had won the championships held in different states till then. He had defeated every competitor of his age including Icho from Zylus. Zylus never admitted this but Abin had them worried and for the very fact Icho found himself in the dungeons of Omila.

Omila’s venture had a huge transitional change in Icho; not only he managed to defeat Abin in a reverse pre-contest but the locals of Zylus began to look him as the next king of Zylian empire.

Just to add weight age to the ante of Icho winning championship, Zylian king, Zymus pronounced that if Icho wins the championship, he would be the crowned king of Zylus till the next leader can be eligible.

Abin in the meanwhile went to Xema to train himself; one year pending after the pre-contest for the champion series. At this point he was more determined than ever. He fought with champions elder than him to test out his strength. Abin knew of the evils in and around every stone in Xema. He reconsidered his decision of being aggressive and offensive and might leave very little for ‘The Day’, sapping out of energy. He knew such battle are long, time-driven and strategy would also be necessary than being more aggressive.

One year to go, everything seemed to be driving or rather whirl pooling to an anticlimax in a lead up to the year of thought destiny for Zylus best champion.

Abin had been to Sapia once during his training and he found little odd that in spite of being in the middle of evil-thought wrecked state, there was this serene but strange calmness about the place. All the people from here were as strong as from anywhere else in Xena but quiet little aggressive. Legends have characters and situation make characters.

The anticlimax rush that was unfolding fast by the day was brought to standstill. While returning from Xema, Abin, on way to Kyso, was struck. Never proved but rumors had strong voice in the corridors of powers of Kyso, that it was Zymus who had done this. Three months to go, when this alleged rumor reached Icho, his strength was destroyed, his status was questioned and more importantly his strength appalled his status about lost opportunity of being undisputed champion.

Abin was wrenched because of this but too everybody’s astonishment he never lost heart and in fact was immediately looking for a worthy competitor from the week after when he recovered. On the other side, Zymus was able to convince Icho of his destiny and that led to a rise of augur in him. He saw no one greater to him and pronounced an open challenge for anybody.

Abin went to Sepia for the one. He eventually met Ness, who unaware of such championships was asked to fight for Abin in lieu of wealth. Abin kept him in dark about the true implication of being at Zylus. He took him to Omila where nobody would ask of Ness. Lyon was the new identity of Ness. Icho with Zylian family was also there then.

The royal stature of Zylian family came in the eye of Lyon escorted by Abin. Lyon had his eye set on the dace that he had to defeat, Icho. But somehow he could never take eye of the Princess next to his target, daughter of Zylus. This distraction seemed quiet annoying to Abin who was trying to avenge his own right.

Before leaving for Kyso from Omila, their eyes crisscrossed and Saara, the princess fell for Lyon. Lyon talked about length, hiding nothing from her, about his identity. As soon as his true identity was revealed to her, without any change in her emotions or commotions, she left in a jiffy. Moreover knowing the fact he was born in Xema, and not knowing about Sepia, she made this decision and would never identify him distinct from rest of Xemians.

Abin knew this could be detrimental, probably could create some barrier when Lyon finally put his challenge in front of Icho. Saara however never told this to Icho, but somehow Zymus came to know.

Three days prior to the event, the contestants are locked up in cells outside the battleground; not knowing what is going outside. Taking advantage of this and understanding clearly that it can’t change Icho’s psyche Abin spread the new about Lyon actually being from Xema, the so called evil-state. Even prior to this, nobody was giving any chance to Lyon; it was only that Abin was supporting him created the hysteria.

Xemians were shocked that somebody could go against the state to participate and eventually decided to disown him. On the day of championship, he was neither a Kyson nor a Xemian, not even Ness; he was a lone fellow disowned by his state. The only true nation he belonged to was the ground he carried with himself while walking under his two feet. Oblivious to the fact that even his mentor or rather buyer has left him, he was left on his own. Even Saara could be blamed for unintentionally ditching him.

The moment had arrived; he came in light a Coliseum but in darkness about the situation around him. As soon as he stepped, he looked out for never to be found Abin. After that next was the crowd from various nations booing out him like hell; then presence of a few Xemians took him by surprise that were there only to take him away and decapitate him.

Seven contenders took their position in seven intersecting circles at the center of coliseum with champion occupying the center circle. All circles intersected the center one and two neighboring circles. In the first round, center circle was empty as reigning champion was given bye. The remaining fought with person in neighboring circle in anti-clockwise direction. The person who won the battle would get a bye in the next round, after defeating the reigning champion in next round. Strategy was again useful; Lyon was in first circle and Icho in sixth. Beryl, the reigning champion was standing a full hundred feet away from the first round action. A hundred feet for the fact that each circle was some twenty feet in diameter.

Each warrior was fully loaded with iron armor suite and seven razor-sharp swords of only two-feet long each.

The other fighters proved to be fillers. The first fight between Icho and Rhodesian Craville lasted no more than seven seconds. Icho cut Craville into two from the center of his ribs, such sharp blades, such sharp desires. Parallel running Quella’s Schill axed the two arm of Papy in two corners taking him not more than twenty seconds. Icho could meanwhile savor the fight between Lyon and Milean, which seemed to be never ending.

Neither of the two wanted to attack, this was making Icho happy but damaging the strategy of Lyon. Somebody from the crowd shouted ‘Shameful Coward, Xemian’ – on hearing this –everything flashed and connected in front of Lyon – the absence of Abin, booing of crowd, presence of Xemians and Saara being quiet in the Courtship Gallery. He went to the furthest part of his circle and raising two swords in his hand, cutting across diameter, leaping in air with full strength, he pierced the two swords into Milean’s heart and taking it out from the other side. This sent tremors in the heart of Beryl for whom hundred feet seemed only inches from his death now. Still inconsequential of outcome, Lyon was fighting for his honor.

Beryl started strongly, his first sling of blade took away a hemisphere of Lyon’s left shoulder, blood exploding out. After three seconds more Lyon was again at the furthest part of the center circle. Again raising his two swords, he leapt, his first, left hand sling only took away few strands of Beryl’s hair but his second, Beryl’s throat away from his chest, his body stood still for a while; seemed to be sensing what has happened, before tasting the dust.

Some first timers in crowd wondered of evils in Xema, seeing this from peace loving Zylians. There is always something common in all of us humans which we are after and there are some principles of ours. These first timers wondered what made Zylian’s honor override their peace. The reason for well known to others who have moved around the complete coliseum, rather only to the winners.

After defeating Beryl, Lyon was one win away from being champion. It was up to Icho to prove the worth of fighting Lyon, Abin’s idea. Meanwhile Lyon read what was inscribed on the circumference of the circle. ”He who owns this can get anything but should desire only his worth” twice, once clockwise and once anticlockwise.

Schill was ready, so was Icho and so were the Zylians and Quellains in crowd. They were in circle 3 and 6, diametrically opposite, separated by a mere twenty feet of center circle, with the same two feet long seven swords each. Both wondering of how to even get close to each other, leave the idea of striking.

When two participants from outside circles are fighting they are not allowed to enter any other circle. They were now supposed to be fighting just on the periphery of the center circle or inner of their own circle and both could run only anticlockwise; else other would be given a bye. The other thing was neither could hurl a flying sword on each other.

Schill was known for his running and he proved his thinkers right. They started running in anticlockwise direction around the center circle with swords in both hand. Icho had another one strap at his back. Inadvertently they took break simultaneously moving at the far end in their own circles. Crowd could see them zapping out of energy; after two hours of royal chase; they found themselves again running after one another on the periphery of center circle; no change.

Only this time crowd could sense a finale not knowing what! Schill was approaching Icho and closing in fast. Icho, seemingly had given up, started to slow down. As Schill got closer to his back, Icho put the two swords in his left and right closets wrapped around his waist and hurled the spear sword on the Lyon standing hundred feet away on the far side.

This took everybody by surprise. Zymus knew of Icho’s strategy immediately. In self-defense Lyon hurled his spear-sword towards the Icho, which he manage to duct successfully and went thru Schill who was thrown to the centre of coliseum because of the speed of throw. Schill became a bait of strategy.

Saara’s heart cried for Lyon. He was already a champion for her. “Hail the Champion”, she shouted. A gush went around the coliseum. A Pandemonium switched over. The crowd thought this to be a treachery on part of the Princess. Lyon moved to the center circle where Icho was already there.

“No swords allowed to be allowed, no weapons allowed, man to man it would be, waiting to be champion” – shouted out the courtyard. Their arms taken away, their armor stripped. In two piece cloth of decency, they were ready to defend their few pounds of flesh and a champion worthy soul.

Just before their first hair swayed from the still positions they were in; demoralizing slogan were shouted by Zylians,

“Disowned by state,

Disowned by fate,

You are alone,

Nobody’s mate”.

Before the start signal could be given, Lyon raised his hand, indicating of a little more time, shouting,

“Owner of billions,

Possessor of zillions,

You are still a borrower,

I at least have my honor”.

One circle, two men, no time limit, only space and energy bound. They wrestled.

Lyon had height to his advantage where as Icho was more powerful by arms.

They wrenched their fist together in order to get hold of each other. The first big move came from Icho, ten minutes into the contest. He bent in front of Lyon, took him by his knew and gave a thump on his chest, falling on him with his whole body weight while taking him down.

Zymus in the stand could not control his emotions and shouted, “Hail the champion!”. The crowd at large began to chant Icho’s name. Citing the opportunity Icho further raised his knee and let in fall crushingly into Lyon’s abdomen.

The whole of Zylus started the countdown. Again to wonder why after having rounds of blood, a mere wrestling countdowns match to decide the Championship?

On the count of five, Lyon jumped to his feet in one go, leaving most of the mouth in the coliseum open. Icho could hear the echo of his nemesis’s paw thudding into ground, as if it has given rise to a seismic wave.

At once, Lyon raised his hand and clinched his fist, raising challenge to Icho, as if to say,’ Was that you best!’ Icho knew that this was far from over.

Icho thought of gathering a little energy for a while, since his last two feats have taken away quiet a lot.

On the other hand, Lyon knew that he can finish it there and then itself. But he was still not aware of the ultimate catch of the championship. But he knew one thing for sure; Xemians are not liked in any small way outside Xema.

But everybody knew that lose can’t walk out free. Lyon went ballistic at this point. He showered left and right punches all over Icho’s body, in the process slamming him down on the floor several times.

This was not enough; Icho got up but was limping. Lyon again targeted his hand throws primarily on Icho’s abdomen. His last punch went thru ribs destroying Icho’s spine. Then came possibly the fastest count for Icho,”One……..Ten!” it sounded from the lone counter in arena.

Lyon walked to the winner ball completely unaware of his prize and desire. He read the inscription,

“The winner can get whatever he desires….. The loser gets mortality immediately.” Just having read this he scampered back to arena and before anybody can touch Icho to meet his fate, at the top of his voice he raised his desire,

“I am a champion,

He is a champion,

I don’t know my desire,

But know my worth.

And it is nothing

Less than a champion!”

Icho was spared. Lyon went back to read the inscription wanting to know of the gruesome ideology of peace loving Zylians. The answer was still frozen, calm, unmoving on the walls of the Hall.

He thus read,

“.. All forms of aggression can co-exist, till the point they don’t confront each other. Once they become dynamic and come face to face, it may give out the most evil form of negative energy. Now, if they continue to co-exist in this dynamic form of theirs, it can give rise to a sort of domino effect triggering new larger battles, even wars. In order that this aggression never come face to face uncontrolled, it is imperative they are tamed in a closure. At the end of this tamed encounter, who ever survive will be moderated and Society will be once again at peace.”

No loser ever before had survived. Icho had, for Lyon.

This was understood by one and all. Lyon was given the most deserved standing ovation and salute of approval to be the next king of Zylian Empire, inspite of him being from Xema.

Lyon said, “I fought for my honor, he was fighting for his nation’s. My honor lived as I won; his honor live for he fought not for himself. My nation, Xema gets its honor back for him, Icho fought against me, his nation’s honor lie in making him the king. As far as my desire is considered since my nation now would be honored and at peace, my all aggression is for Saara”. The sole reasonable truth for all thing is love in varied forms.

BSCHOOL LESSONS FROM ADITYA BIRLA

WHAT THEY DON'T TEACH YOU AT BUSINESS SKOOL

2 April, 2003
Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla
Corporate Dossier

Having traversed this trajectory, and learnt my lessons, I thought I would share with you six things that I believe an MBA does not or rather cannot teach you. There are no tailor-made solutions to the issues I raise. Rather, the intent is to draw attention to them, and make you aware of them. The shortcomings I talk about are generic - they apply across the board, across countries and institutions. The real world puts you at the deep end and you realise that the ground realities are radically different.

Lesson 1: Learning to work as part of a team

The first lesson, I believe, relates to the skills required to be able to work in teams. We tend to be very individualistic. This is partly an outcome of our educational system, which necessitates cut-throat competition. It puts a premium on individual achievement and brilliance, at the cost of team or organisational effectiveness. Individual stars are fine but, by themselves, they cannot create the brilliance of a galaxy.

In business, one constantly has to interact with people, and work in teams. Most business situations cut across a range of product, geographic and functional areas - and a full range of competencies needs to be deployed to deal with the situation at hand. No one person has all the answers. Naturally, teams are the predominant setting for work.

At different points in time, depending on the business needs, you may have to be engaged with multiple teams, move out of one team and connect with a new team. The challenge that confronts you in repeatedly emotionally switching on and off in such environs - and how to deal with it proactively has hitherto not been inked in textbooks. I believe that being able to work in teams requires a whole new set of skills.

First, one has to learn how to be a good listener. The greater the complexity of the issue, the greater is the tendency to view only facts and figures, neglecting the anxieties, expectations, the conflicts that underline the issue. In such a process, people need to unravel agendas, appreciate apprehensions and relate to the emotionally charged response. When this does not happen, the solutions that emanate are sub-optimal. Working within a team also requires learning the art of compromise and tact. One has to be able to spot good ideas and suggestions and weave them together.

The challenge is that of keeping an open mind, and not being saddled with a rigid position.

Progressive business leaders welcome constructive dissent as a process that leads to significant improvements in the quality of decisions made, as value-added inputs are embedded in it.

Learning to cope with the disappointment of not having your views factored in a team situation is necessary, as is getting on with 'business as usual'. B-Schools cannot tutor us on how to manage our emotional perspective.

I believe teaming is all about 'attuning' to others. Teaming is about bonding, about camaraderie and about creating a symphony. It is about not thinking 'what is in it for me' and instead graduating to 'what is in it for us?'.

Take 1 therefore is: Being team-spirited is critical to success in professional life.

Lesson 2: Learning to take care of the details

My next take is on the question of what business schools refer to as the 'helicopter view'. A management education encourages students to take the broad view, a top-down approach. This is fine, as far as it goes. But even the best perspective has to be backed up by action on the ground, and this requires getting down to the nitty-gritty.

At B-Schools, most of us develop a magnificent obsession with 'strategy'. We romanticise it because it seems so cerebral. What we conveniently overlook is that one arrives at a 'strategy' only after having paid meticulous attention to the minutest details. And this is required because without delving into details, a strategy can be fundamentally flawed.

One of the favourite exercises of Jack Welch - ex-CEO of GE - was to pick out an issue and do a 'deep dive' on it. He would spot a challenge where he thought he could make a difference - and then he would throw himself into the details of that. For instance, when GE began its push into the medical imaging business, Jack Welch would dive into the minutest details of the business and operations - right down from the quality of the X-ray tubes to buying the right components.

Take 2: Remember… God is in the details.

Lesson 3: Learning to work across cultures

The third issue that I wish to raise is that of working across cultures. Up to about a decade ago, most businesses in India were, by and large, inward looking, and oriented predominantly towards the domestic market. But globalisation has changed all that. Now we have to look at global competition, global benchmarks and global markets. And when business boundaries dissolve to this extent, people have to be able to bridge different cultures.

Today, there are many more organisations that offer you the opportunity - and more than that - require you to work in other areas of the world or with people who come from diverse cultures. It is for this reason that some of the best employers in the country are those who will reward you for your ability to straddle across different cultures in a seamless manner. And this need is much more pronounced now than it was a decade ago.

Let me mention the story of two businessmen, a Japanese and an American. The American was enthusiastic about finalising a business deal, and he kept on saying that his thinking - and the thinking of his Japanese counterpart - were in parallel. Yet, the Japanese was not happy, and he thought the deal had floundered. Why? Because, to a Japanese, the word 'parallel' connotes two straight lines that never meet!

Take 3: Respect different cultures and learn from them.

Lesson 4: Learning to make use of the gift of judgement and intuition

I come to the fourth point - about learning to make use of an asset that we have, but don't normally think about. In fact, this is an asset that, again, our education system conditions us to downplay, if not neglect. I am talking about the use of intuition and gut feel, what we call the 'sixth sense'. Actually, intuition is not as random as we make it out to be, nor can it be called unscientific; part of intuition is our knowledge and experiences, processed and distilled, and stored in our sub-conscious. Of course, intuition cannot be a substitute for facts, logic and sound analysis - but it can be a complement to our analytical and logical thought processes.

Earlier in my career, I always felt that management is a science. But as you go up the management ladder, you enter an arena where it evolves into an art and here there is nothing for you to go by except your gut feel, your intuition.
Newcomers into an organisation often develop some kind of derision towards older and more experienced persons, who may not be in sync with modern concepts and tools. There will always be a generation gap. To be successful, esteeming the experience and expertise of seniors in an organisation is vital

Take 4 - then - is: Listen to your sixth sense. Also understand the touch and feel factor of the experienced.

Lesson 5: Using failure as a stepping stone to success

Let me turn to the fifth factor - the fear of failure. I believe that we have to get used to failure and learn how to get the best out of it. Too many of our organisations penalise or look down on those who have failed.

Regrettably we attach undue importance to failures. Many among you would have gone into depression at not being chosen on day one or day two for your summer placement or at having missed being selected by your dream company.
Please do bear in mind that failure is by no means the end of the world. It is, in many cases, a precondition for success. Failure is the crucible in which success is created. It has to be seen as a learning experience, a process of trying out alternatives and eliminating them.

Take the example of the space shuttle Columbia. Shuttles have been America's space workhorses for now well over twenty years. Even as space shuttle Columbia crashed, America will be embarking on the mission again, but only after thoroughly scrutinising its failure and factoring the lessons learnt. I have often wondered whether we should expel the word 'failure' from our lexicon and instead talk of 'failed attempts'.

Take 5 is: There's no success without failure.

Lesson 6: Learning a new, more holistic definition of success

Finally, I come to the last issue - that of the need for redefining success. Just as it is important to cope with failure, we all, in fact, each one of us, needs to reflect on what success really means and how do we measure it. Too many of us define success in terms of designation, how much we earn, the perquisites, and whether we are working in a 'prestigious' organisation or not.

I believe importantly success is how far you have traversed in life - from the starting point of the journey to where one is placed today. Using this metric, many of you will discover that you have come a long way indeed. If we probe even more, we might realise that perhaps it's not just success that we're really after. What most of us want is to be happy.

Take 6: Let's define success more holistically.

Conclusion

I have walked you through six lessons that I believe cannot be adequately stressed in a business school education. I hope that just being aware of these will help you get started on acquiring those aspects of learning that may be missing. Each of us has different learning needs - we are better in some areas, while lacking in others. So it's up to each of us to take stock of ourselves, and identify which of these learnings we fall more short of - so that we can work to bridge the gaps.

Look on your workplace as a continuing MBA that will help plug the gaps not learnt formally.

I welcome you all to the real world. And don't forget to have fun along the way.

EGOVERNANCE

Government of India has an online Grievance forum. Can you imagine this happening in INDIA?

The govt. wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc.

Many of us say that these things don't work in India. Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dug up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents. A resident used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. To his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad were served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as it's clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who don't know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the 'System' in India.

Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.
PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE IF U WANT OUR INDIA TO HAVE A BETTER TOMORROW & FORWARD THIS MAIL TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE.

THE TATA LEGACY.. J.R.D TATA

Benevolent J.R.D,
a happy birthday to you.

The steely foundation of Indian industry that you laid is bearing all fruits. The wings you gave to Indians; they want to fly higher than their dreams.

Even after Plano to Nano, still more is required and we know 'keepers of the flames' are doing their best in order to improve the situation.

As far as your love for art is concerned, there is still more acceptability required. But the human spirit of struggle to improve still lives on.

The flame is now giving light to complete globe and it wants to become synonymous with solar.

Your inspiration, our aspiration will continue to lighten the flame indefinetly.

Location: Tata Museum, Jamshedpur.
In the
first pic, you can see a painting. This was a gift to JRD Tata on his Birthday by a street artist. Nobody was able to understand his art. Unfortunately, only the painting was given to JRD and the artist had promised to reveal the secret shortly . However, JRD was no more when the secret was actually revealed.
Here's the secret revealed. When you place a steel rod at the circle in the first pic you saw, you will see the image of the JRD Tata as a reflection on the steel rod as seen in the second pic below. Isn't it incredible!!

COZ MEN WILL BE MAN

Don’t feel to clean

Leave mattress with bean

While moving forward

Always appear mean

If somebody speaks

Hear the eminent

All only when free

And words are lenient

Vision compact

For focus

Maximum impact

Missing nothing in locus

Not insensitive

Ready to hunt

Emotionless

As nature wants

Camaraderie with brothers is simple

Rare worry of a pimple

Like beautiful twinkle

Mellows with dimple

Will boast in front of men

Humble in front of woman

Chivalry an art

Flirt like smart

Ego is of ideas

And treats woman of her beauty

Spare for time

But not for the duty

Not scared

When tears roll

Give in

Because feel self-robbed

Forgive when forget,

Women give this rebate

Man has to always respect,

God who create

Do differentiate

Some like toys

Some like van

Because boys will be boys

Coz men will be man
